Federal Health Care Reform Legislation: What it Means for Michigan Employers
Presented by Gregory W. Moore and Wendy Block
Tuesday, May 18, 2010
10:00 - 11:00 AM EST

President Obama has signed landmark legislation on health care reform into law and the impact on employers is substantial and complicated. For the first time, many employers will be subjected to penalties if they do not offer coverage to employees or if the coverage fails an affordability test. Down the road, employers also could be affected by a new tax on costly health insurance plans if health care plan costs continue to rise.

To help employers keep up with the latest developments, we have developed a webinar to address key provisions on health care reform and explain how it affects fully-insured health plans, self-funded healthcare plans, corporate wellness programs, voluntary benefits and more. Learn how these reforms will impact you and your employees with Gregory Moore, an attorney who heads up Clark Hill's Healthcare Initiative Wendy Block, Director of Health Policy & Human Resources at the Michigan Chamber.

Items to be addressed:

  • Employer Fines and Penalties
  • Employer Information Reporting Requirements
  • Employer Mandated Coverage
  • Prohibition Regarding Discrimination in Favor of Highly Compensated Employees
  • Small Employer Tax Credits
  • Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account Changes
  • Pre Existing Condition Prohibitions
  • Auto Enrollment Requirements
  • Early Retiree Health Coverage
  • Expansion of Coverage for Dependants Under Age 26
  • Prohibition on Lifetime Maximums
  • State Exchange Programs
  • Tax on Cadillac Plans

Expert Presenters:

Gregory W. Moore heads up Clark Hill's Healthcare initiative and is also a member of the Labor & Employment Practice Group. He has focused his entire career on representing health care providers and routinely handles matters before federal and state courts as well as administrative agencies. Gregory was named one of Indiana's Super Lawyers for Employment Law for 2003 and 2004. In Michigan, the same honor was bestowed upon him in 2007 and 2008 after practicing here for three short years. Gregory is an accomplished speaker and has lectured on health care and employment law topics all across the United States. He routinely publishes articles through various trade publications in the health care industry.

Wendy Block, Director of Health Policy and Human Resources, works directly with the state legislature and state agencies to advocate for legislative proposals that address the affordability and availability of private health insurance and against proposals that interfere with Michigan employers' ability to operate free of uncompetitive government regulations and workplace mandates. She directs the Chamber's Health and Human Resources Committee, which is comprised of business leaders with an interest in issues related to health care benefits, workers' compensation, unemployment insurance, labor relations and lawsuit abuse. Prior to joining the Chamber, Wendy was a policy advisor for the Michigan House of Representatives covering health insurance, financial services and education issues.
