Sustainability: An Emerging Force in Business and its impact upon the Safety Profession
Although the US business community has been slower to embrace sustainable development and manufacturing than their European counterparts, there is now significant change afoot in the United States.   Current carbon cap and trade legislation, government financial incentives, increasing influence from 'socially responsible' investors, increased customer requirements and consumer activism are influencing this change.    This session will provide participants with insight into the concepts underpinning sustainability, an understanding of the business case for such models and insight into how this will both impact and create opportunities for safety professionals involved with this emerging trend in business. Participants will learn about:

  • The principles of the Sustainability Model:   The triple bottom line:  People (Equity), Planet (Environment), and Profit (Economy)
  • The role of the safety professional in impacting a company's sustainable performance.
  • The current status of carbon cap and trade legislation and how it may affect your company and your business environment.
  • The US Environmental Protection Agency's ruling on carbon as a pollutant.
  • The supply chain affect and its impact on your company's sustainability model
  • US financial incentives for eco viable solutions to:  sustainable development, retrofitting and manufacturing.
  • Real world business cases for sustainable manufacturing and development initiatives.
