Today’s nurse must be an advocate for patient safety and for environments that promote quality care.  A healthy work environment for the nurse is a crucial part of this equation; and a work environment cannot be healthy when bullying and lateral violence are present.  This webinar will provide a resource for understanding bullying and lateral violence in healthcare and its relationship to healthy work environments and safety cultures.  The speaker will also provide strategies for improving and addressing bullying and lateral violence to attain optimal working environments and allow nurses to focus on patient outcomes.

Dr. Longo has worked in nursing for over 25 years in various roles from diploma nurse to management to nursing research.  These various roles have permitted her to understand workplace bullying from various perspectives.  Dr. Longo has studied the phenomenon of bullying and lateral violence for nearly 10 years and received the American Nurses Foundation Julia Hardy RN grant to develop research instrument to measure horizontal violence.  She is widely published on the topic and is a sought after presenter.  Dr. Longo recently worked with ANA on our publication “Bullying in the Workplace: Reversing a Culture.”
