On Oct. 20, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released its highly anticipated final blueprint for the Medicare accountable care organization (ACO) program. The AMA commented extensively on the CMS proposed rule and many of the AMA suggestions for encouraging physician-led ACOs were adopted in the Final Rule, including the establishment of a new $170 million program that will provide advance payments to physicians who want to form Medicare ACOs.
