Overview:
This 90-minute presentation will provide an overview of current and emerging trends in health care workforce development, as the nation looks to increase the number of health professionals to meet current and future needs for access to patient care services. Presenters will discuss innovative ways to bring providers, educators, and professional associations together to collaborate for maximum effectiveness. They will also take a brief look at the current health care workforce projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, analyze the current economic downturn's impact on the shortages, and look at two innovative programs that are setting the standard for these new, collaborative efforts on both a state and metropolitan basis. This webinar will also include a Q&A period with the presenters.
Objectives:
The presenters will address the following questions:
- What are the current BLS projections as the top opportunities for the next ten years, and what impact has the recent economic downturn had these projections?
- What trends are starting to emerge for metropolitan and state-wide programs to better utilize state and federal funding, as well as to pull together various levels of educational programs?
- What are the key areas to be considered in any type of metropolitan or state-wide initiative directed to health careers promotion, education, and training?
- How can local groups better utilize available resources and efforts to promote health care careers in secondary and post-secondary institutions for both traditional and non-traditional students?
