Program format
60 minute web conference, including a 20 minute question and answer period
Program description
Have you been offered an EHR/EMR system from a hospital, health system or health plan? Do you have concerns about the cost or the donation agreement/contract? Do you know if your practice management system (PMS) will “talk to” the offered EHR/EMR system? In this audio web conference, you will learn the “ins and outs” of donation agreements and the legal requirements. You will hear about the real contracting issues facing physician practices from Dr. Jay Want and Jeff Archambeau of Physician Health Partners, a management services organization Denver, Colo. Both have led a number of physician groups through the donation process. Heidi Echols, partner at McDermott Will & Emery, will explain the legal considerations, including the Stark law exceptions and Anti-kickback Statute safe harbors, as well as the business of information technology (IT) contacts. By the end of the program, you will be able to decide whether accepting a donation is right for your practice.
Educational objectives
After completing this activity, participants should be better able to:
• Determine whether they should accept subsidized electronic health record and/or electronic prescribing technology
• Comply with regulations governing subsidized (donated) health information technology
• Recognize regular components of donation agreements and general information technology contracts
